The Benefits of becoming an AOOA Member

The AOOA aims to impartially represent the interests of private and commercial aircraft owners and operators and their principle stakeholders with a view to facilitating coordination with the relevant authorities and promotion of the cost-efficient, appropriately compliant and safety-conscious functioning and development of the aviation sector in Zambia as a significant component of the national economy.

Our objectives are to make a positive industry-wide impact for Zambian aviation, addressing with diplomacy the more contentious issues constraining its growth, while providing a social and interactive forum for members to benefit from participation in our activities and voice the concerns and challenges they face in the sector. We have an active website and social media platforms which provide the tools for us to communicate effectively with our membership and the public.

As our membership expands, we will be adding more and more membership services and events to our calendar that include meetings with aviation governing bodies, safety meetings, fly-ins, open-days and social get-togethers.

Under its Youth Outreach Division headed by Veronica Nkunde, the AOOA is developing an Aviation Mentorship Program, the goal of which is to bridge the awareness, knowledge and experience gap between youth and industry veterans. We believe that this program provides an opportunity for us to give back to the community by encouraging aspiring pilots, engineers and aviation professionals to pursue their ambitions, and contribute to the continuity and development of aviation in Zambia.

Some of the more recent activities the AOOA is currently engaged in include :

• Promoting membership of the AOOA, including Introduction of a “Certificate of Membership” for commercial aviation operators, and launching of our Youth Outreach and Aviation Mentorship programme;

• Continued lobbying of Aviation Fuel suppliers for improved services and prices, and we have recently learned of progress in these regards among which we are hopeful that recent fuel price increases may be re-adjusted when our currently uncertain economic environment settles down;

• Continued lobbying of ZACL for more reasonable Aviation Fee structures, out of which we have received assurances that these are being introduced in response to our concerns;

• Continued interactions with the CAA regarding implementation of our Agenda 2021 items tabled with the CAA’s Director-General, although largely due to the Covid-19 pandemic we have yet to meet substantively with the Authority to push the agreed items forward as envisaged;

• Continued participation with the ASSP II Programme funded by the EU under our Ministry of Transport & Communications (MoT&C), including meeting with MoT&C officials and project consultants regarding challenges to the development of aviation in Zambia and tabling recommendations for meeting these challenges to be met constructively.

Check out our events calendar on our website or click the button below to find out what activities are coming up. We look forward to you visiting our website, and would welcome your interest in joining the AOOA as a member in whichever category is appropriate for you.

Note : The AOOA is an independent, non-partisan Association that subscribes to social values of courtesy, respect and equal opportunity; while we encourage discussion and expression of considered opinions on aviation issues, the Association will not associate itself with any prejudicial or discriminatory material.
