Cooperation with Zambia CAA

The AOOA continues to work with the ZCAA on a number of issues. The DG has recently expressed his enthusiasm for reconvening our stakeholder meetings to finalise and close out the following specific issues tabled to the Authority during 2019, many of which have already been agreed in principle between the interested parties :

  •  Flying Training – rationalising appropriate flying training procedures and implementing standards for different types, sizes and scopes of flight operations in Zambia, including provisions for Designated Training Organisations (DTOs) to serve General Aviation, and establishing a Board of Flight Instructors, Check Pilots and Examiners;

  • ZCAA’s proposed new Approach to the issue of AOCs for the commercial aviation industry in Zambia - The Authority proposes to differentiate AOC Certification Procedures and Implementing Standards for different types, sizes and scopes of commercial air service operations in Zambia;

  • Establishing provisions for the resumption and regulation of commercial flying privileges for CPLs and ATPLs over age 65;

  • Rationalising Aeroplane Class & Type/Series Ratings for aircraft below 5,700 Kgs;

  • Rationalising Light Aircraft Piston Engine Manufacturers’ 12-Year TBO Requirements;

  • Rationalising Requirements for Validating and Converting Foreign Pilots’ Licences to Zambian Licences;

  • Allowing acceptable Hours: Minutes and Decimals of Hours Formats for recording Flight Times in Pilots’ Personal Flying Logbooks;

  • Rationalising Flight (& Cabin) Crew Requirements for Single-Crew Certified Aircraft below 5,700 Kgs.

The AOOA and aviation operators and stakeholders at large recently participated in the ZCAA’s Aviation Safety, Education and Promotion meetings, held among the different aviation centres of Zambia.

The Lusaka meeting took place at the Arcades Protea Hotel on 2nd March 2020, and was attended by Committee Members Edmund Farmer and Robert Stacey on behalf of AOOA.
