Aviation Sector Support Programme II for Zambia ASSP II-Z Gender Equality in Aviation Workshop Online, 25 March 2021

As many will be familiar, the EASA programme is an on-going European project to provide support and oversight in enhancing capabilities within the Zambian aviation sector.

A webinar initiative was hosted by an EASA delegation to explore and discuss Gender Equality in Aviation. It was well attended by over 40 participants from a cross-section of our Zambian industry.

Participants were asked to declare their gender and to submit answers before and throughout the presentation which challenged their thoughts, preconceptions and attitudes towards gender equality in our field.

After a brief introduction by Mr. Carlos Tortosa, EASA Project Manager, ASSP II, there followed an overview of the topic, short video presentations and review and group observation of the anonymous male/ female responses to the pre-webinar survey which had been dispatched, hosted by Elena Garcia Sanchez, EASA, Structure Certification Expert.

After the break, our own CAA’s Madam Lilian Lungu and EASA’s Carla Ioria gave their frank personal testimonials and experiences of defining moments and challenges they have faced in their careers.

Before the conclusion and a short Q&A, Hildah Kafota Simulambo and Capt. Yichidi Ndjhovu gave an interesting insight into recent achievements and planned activities for 2021 for the Women in Aviation Zambia Chapter.
