EU Aviation Sector Support Programme

Earlier this month, AOOA were invited to attend the 6th Steering Committee Meeting (via WebEx) for the ASSP-Z II (Aviation Sector Support Programme to Zambia II).

Now mid-term, and timetabled to conclude by September next year, this is an EU-funded project in support of the Zambia Civil Aviation Authority and other stakeholders with purpose to develop a reliable and effective aviation sector, capable of contributing to national economic growth through improving compliance with international standards, in the areas of air safety, security, certification and oversight.

How is this being done? Through targeted capacity enhancement initiatives and strengthening of the institutional and regulatory framework.

What does this mean? The dedicated commitment and focused efforts between the professional teams of ZCAA, EASA, and expert advisors (and, at times, including representatives from the broader industry), involved in developing and coordinating a work-plan, continued support towards Corrective Action Plan objectives and answering of ICAO Protocol Questions.

A continuing series of activities (technical workshops, trainings and longer-term distance support) will be delivered via webinar, video conferences, etc. in the months ahead, covering the key areas of: Air Operator Certificate OPS Specs, the full implementation of a State Safety Programme (including principles and compliance guidance for the industry), Safety Management Systems, Quality Management and Auditing, Human Factors, Independent Accident & Incident Investigation, Gender Equality and Regional Safety Oversight Organisations.

AOOA will continue to represent Members in full support of ZCAA and their participation in this important process.
