What has the AOOA done for me?
Many thanks to those of you that have paid your 2024 subscriptions.
The AOOA has been particularly active recently so please see below a list of subject matter tackled by your committee, some successful outcomes and others ongoing:
Mfuwe Airport closure notice – a swift reversal of this decision.
Proposed security regulations for all unmanned airfields - a reprieve in the enforcement of this regulation while a more realistic and workable set of standards is developed.
Rehabilitation works at Jeki – temporary for this season and long term for sustainability for the high volume of traffic it receives.
Check point B – a compromise reached since the sudden introduction of excessive access restrictions.
TASP requirements for visiting foreign aircraft.
Reinstatement of the “block clearance” convenience from ZAF.
Representing the interests of GA on numerous committees such as: MOTL Search & Rescue, KKIA Security and KKIA Runway Safety Committees, to name but a few…
Each time an issue comes up that affects the general aviation sector, members of your committee draft letters, attend meetings, join sub committees and generally spend a lot of their (unpaid) time attempting to smooth the path for the rest of us.
The benefits achieved by the activities of the committee are not restricted to AOOA members but do indeed benefit all involved in general aviation and related industries such as tourism. There are of course expenses involved in running such an organization and the AOOA cannot continue to operate without contributions. We therefore appeal to all of you to pay your subs and to encourage others to join up. The more weight we have behind our cause, the higher the chances of a favourable outcome.
